Photography Bootcamp classes are held on the dates below from 9AM to noon in the Parish Hall at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, 518 Alameda Blvd.

Did you recently get a new camera? Do you have a camera sitting on a shelf because you haven’t figured out how to use it? Maybe you've got a camera but you want to get more use out of it? If you’d like to learn more about your camera and how to best utilize it to get great photographs, the Doña Ana Photography Club's “Photography Bootcamp Workshop” is for you!
This 4-part series is aimed at anyone new to photography, anyone wanting to learn how to better use his or her camera, or anyone with questions about photography and how to take better photographs. The Boot Camp will start with “Learning About Your Camera” and include courses covering taking better photographs, getting your camera off automatic mode, and basic editing.
Class 1 - Saturday, January 17 - Intro to Your Camera
Class 2 - Saturday, February 21 - Getting Your Camera Off Auto Mode
Class 3 - Saturday, March 21 - Creating Better Photographs
Class 4 - Saturday, April 18 - Enhancing Your Photos and Q&A
DAPC Photography Bootcamp Class 1, Saturday January 17th, 9AM - 12 PM
Intro to Your Camera
Learn to use your new camera!
The first part of the course will revolve around the basics of the camera, identifying general camera information, dials, and buttons. Then the course will discuss basic techniques to help you get comfortable with the camera, holding it, and using it in the field; some basic photography tips will also be discussed.
For the second part of the course, attendees will break into smaller groups and work with a member of the Doña Ana Photography Club. Here they will be able to ask specific questions about their cameras and get hands-on help. After some hands-on time, groups will go out and get some practice “in the field.” They will have plenty of opportunities to practice things they learned and be able to ask questions while out taking pictures. Participants will then return and have a chance to review and discuss their photos and ask any final questions.
A DAPC member will lead the workshop; other members from the club will be on hand to help out during the hands-on section.

Getting Your Camera Off Auto Mode
For more information and to reserve your spot, click here.
Learn to ditch auto mode and master your camera’s manual settings in this hands-on DAPC bootcamp!
This workshop demystifies and provides an explanation of the camera’s aperture priority and shutter priority settings. The instructor will break down the exposure triangle (shutter speed, aperture & ISO) using real-world examples to show how they are interrelated. At the completion participants will be able to make informed decisions using the exposure triangle to get the photograph they want. The class also includes a brief discussion on the visual distortion of wide-angle vs. telephoto lenses.
Following that, there will be small group hands-on time to help participants learn how to change these settings on their own camera. Participants will then have time to practice what they learned along with members from the DAPC who will be available for assistance. Participants will return to the workshop environment for small group discussion and to answer questions they may have.
This class will be taught by Dave Brown, Doña Ana Photography Club Member-At-Large. Dave has been involved in photography for more than 40 years and has provided instruction to adult learners for over 20 years. He has had images on display at local venues and has been published in New Mexico Magazine®. He enjoys helping people understand the workings of photography so they may take that knowledge and improve their photos.
